I always want to claim my name is Biblical: Debra Elizabeth
First clue that it isn't is the spelling of Debra - not Deb-o-rah, but Deb-ra.
Give me a room of 30 women between 30 and 60 (since I'm a teacher, this happens often), and I predict I will be one of two Debbies. I blame Debbie Reynolds - and my mom. My mom was a fan of Debbie Reynolds - I could have just as easily been named Tammy. Debbie played a character named Tammy . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgFg2Tm5_wE
Debbie Reynolds' real name isn't even Debbie - its Mary Frances!
My middle name Elizabeth follows the same trend - yes, for Elizabeth Taylor. Debbie's husband Eddie left Debbie to be with Liz Taylor. Huge Hollywood scandal in the late 1950's, which was close to a decade before I was born.
So with that history, I really tried to pick a name for my daughter that ould be unique; in 1985 Amanda seemed like a grandmother name. Who knew she would be one of enough Amandas to make up a relay team in swim in High School!
